SCIATICA v/s SACROILIAC
SCIATICA v/s SACROILIAC
You might have back pain, leg pain, or even...buttock pain? Not sure exactly is causing your pain? Well you should ask a PT first (hint hint, free consultation), or you can do this very safe maneuver to see if it could be something as simple as SACRO-ILIAC JOINT PAIN.
STEP ONE: FIRE UP THE HIPS
STEP ONE: FIRE UP THE HIPS
LYING ON YOUR BACK or sitting in a chair (this is usually much easier), wrap a regular belt around the thighs, keeping about 3-4 inches of space between the knees. Next press firmly against the belt, trying to break it essentially (you won't!, don't worry). You should feel the muscles in your outer hips tighten, and you might even feel pressure
deep in the joints in the back of your pelvis. The area just under the two dimples in your lower back is what we refer to as the sacro-iliac joints.
You should only have to press 3-4 times in this direction, so just a few seconds each 15 sec or so max.
STEP TWO: FIRE UP THE GROIN
STEP TWO: FIRE UP THE GROIN
IN THE SAME position as step one, you will now squeeze your knees together against a pillow, rolled up towel, or ball (like a kick ball or football). Squeeze as hard as you can. It might hurt in your groin/pubic bone but you are not injuring the area. Again you would do this about 3-4 times so 15 sec max!
So get up and walk around and see if your pain is improved. If its better but not all better you can repeat these steps a few more times. If not, you can call your PT for a deeper look into the problem. Good Luck!
